2025 KTM 350XCF SIngletrack Trail Ride Part 2
I've been asked many times about the slow technical trail ride capability of my new 2025 KTM 350XCF. This is part 2 of a short tighter more technical trail loop I set up this time trying to go a little faster and mixing in a few more open trail sections to see how the bike would work for me at a little quick pace. I did not stall the bike though kept a finger on the clutch the whole time. I think lower gearing (maybe a 13T countershafter sprocket vs the stock 14/50 combo) and a fan would help a lot with low speed riding. I will go ride a motocross track tomorrow with this bike. As I have said before this bike just might be the most versatile 4-stroke dirt bike!
Here is a video explaining how I dial back the power using the CUO...

350's are such a great combination of Power/Weight/Handling and this latest 350 engine in the updated 2025 KTM chassis with new WP spring forks does not disappoint! The latest 350 engine has stronger low to mid power compared to the KR350 and still pulls forever on top and both of the stock EFI maps run clean and crisp. The complete Akrapovic exhaust system on the 25 350XCF is quieter, lighter, pulls strong, and has a spark arrester too. With the Connectivity Unit Offroad it is easy to dial in the power character of the 350XCF. For woods riding I dial back the power and throttle response using the Gravel/Wet base power map. In the Advance settings option I minimize throttle response, minimize engine braking, and maximize Traction Control. This combination really smoothes out the initial throttle response making the 350XCF easier to ride on tight trails. Minimizing engine braking frees up the chassis and gives the bike a "lighter" feel in motion. At the MX track I can use the CUO to turn up the throttle response and use the Sand/Dry base map for a little more power feel. The CUO offers the option to change the engine power and character.
The updated WP spring forks are impressive! The rear of the bike has more comfort too with the updated frame along with linkage and shock changes though still not as compliant as the KR350 chassis/frame on the chop and sharp inputs. This could be the first Austrian bike I ride with the stock suspension.

      I have a 24.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition along with my newest bike the 25 350XCF. With the CUO it is easy to dial back or dial up the engine response. If you ride more moto and are fast perhaps the 450FE is a better bike. If you like to do a light moto and more off road riding the 350XCF might be a better choice. I would have bought a '25 350XCF Factory Edition if it was available but I did not want to wait as KTM usually announces that bike in late September at the Ironman GNCC race. I really like the overall balance of Power/Weight/Handling in the latest KTM/Husky/Gas Gas 350 models. Here is a quick back to back ride on the 450FE and 350XCF... ua-cam.com/video/x7aT09zbyzg/v-deo.html

    Great review. I think a lot of people are going to be impressed with it's all-round capabilities. A 13 tooth front sprocket will make quite a difference. I even tried a 12 tooth on my 21 Fe 350!! Was too low but had incredible stall resistance in the bush when you got tired.

    Hey man Love your content. How do you feel this bike would compare to a beta 390?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1 38 хвилин тому

      I've ridden a 2023 Beta 390 Race Edition and a 2023 Beta 390RR. The Beta 390's have a more full flywheel feel to the engine - little slower RPM build and the engine runs really well at low RPM. The suspension is woods focused setting so too soft for even slow Vet moto but works great in the woods (spend the extra money for Race Edition to get the KYB suspension). The 390 Beta is heavier than the KTM 350XCF and you can feel this weight statically and in motion. The KTM has a lighter feel statically and in motion and makes more peak power and the engine revs more quickly. The 350XCF suspension and chassis feel firmer overall.

    That akropovic expansion chamber always looks awfully close to the bottom of the fuel tank. What’s the distance there if I might ask. My eyes might just be deceiving me

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1 10 годин тому

      Good question! The Akrapovic resonance chamber has about 25mm clearance to the bottom of the fuel tank and the guard is about 3mm above the chamber. Seems like plenty to me however the stock resonance chamber is way more forward and had a more than twice the clearance. I really like the quieter sound and spark arrester on the Akrapovic.

    • @SamPaulson-we7of
      @SamPaulson-we7of Годину тому

      That’s actually more than I would have thought. Thank you for taking the time to measure that!! In my opinion, the Akrapovic exhaust is the best sounding one out there for the Austrian bikes. Keep up the great work on the videos!

    Love all the videos - A+++ lots of information and wonderful test reviews !!!! These new bikes are getting pretty tecno with all the new computers , ignitions and settings etc - the cou units are getting a bit too much for me as far as technology goes imo ( that is one of many reasons that I love my 24 Beta RX300 ) it is still pretty simple 😁 Both of my KTM's 2023 sx 250 2 stroke and my 21 Fact edition 450 look like a road atlas of wiring under the seat where Breat has some but they have done such a good job of keeping things simple like me lol !! I went down to my local KTM HUSKY GASGAS dealer last weekend and have decided to purchase a new 2025 GASGAS EX 350 - the dealer gave me a great deal on trade for my 450 but not sure I want to let it go just yet ( for me it is the best 4 stroke I have ever ridden ) I have raced a newer RMZ 450 which was a very nice bike , the Beta 450 , a KX450 , and a and a 2022 works edition Honda , have not rode a newer YZf 450 yet ( 250f yes ) and have not liked any as much as my 21 450 , I like my KTM 250 / beta 300 better than all the bikes I have listed - the problems that make me say hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I also have a 2024 Beta 300 Race Edition and it runs amazingly clean and smooth for a simple carb and mechanical power valve. New 23/24 YZ450F is a beast and with the downdraft intake revs like a 2-stroke - very fun but hand on! Gas Gas EX350...very nice!!! You will be impressed with the latest 350 engine. If you are moving and hitting bumps and sloshing the fuel around you can use basically all of it. If you jump on a smooth road section and cruise steady state you may use all the fuel that is held in the pocket around the fuel pump. I regularly ride with only 2" of fuel showing in the lower section but I keep the bike moving and that sloshes the fuel into the cup around the fuel pump.

    There's really only one reason, and one reason only that I don't favor 4 strokes for woods riding, more specifically the tighter woods is the flame out issues. If it wasn't for that, Id be on one of these scoots. Love my 350 on MX track, but use my smoker for off-road. Have you had any flame outs as of yet?

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 День тому

      Have a 2023 SX-F 350 and it's definitely an issue for me at low speeds. Apparently mxengineer1 said there's a new map (his son got it on his 450 SX-F) that will help with flame out. I'm a "VET" rider in my early 50's and it's definitely much different than riding a 2 stroke (which is what I grew up on) at low speeds. Can't ask for anything more on a moto track though......WOW!

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1 День тому

      Hard to beat a 300 smoker for tight technical woods riding. I've not stalled the 25 350XCF yet but always have a finger on the clutch and have not ridden it in really technical woods stuff yet. Realize the 350XCF is a high compression ration high HP engine (MXA says 54hp) so making an engine breathe and run good at 13,000rpm+ does make it want to run at low RPM's. KTM offers the lower compression ration and lower power 350XCFW for the tighter more technical riding - much more stall resistant.

    Great vid and hello from BC Canada! You mentioned "Ergos were a little tight for my 6' 2" 190 frame" Can you expand on that comment a tiny bit? Was it that the handle bars felt too low, the cockpit, pegs or just the seat and plastics in terms of width?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1 2 дні тому

      You have some great off road riding in BC! The handlebar/seat/footpeg relationship is tight on the Sherco models. The handlebar mounts feel close to the rider, the footpegs feel high and a little forward, and the seat to footpeg distance is tight.

    Cool comparison. It looks like you are much more “ leaned in” for the inside corners with the 350, meaning the tires are in the center of the trail, opposed to the 300 which appears to be more on the outer side of the trail. Thus, the 350 hand guards and hitting more branches in the corners. Another thing, is that it looks like the 300 is a little more busy. So to check this, what I did for kicks, was take a small section from each, and import it into FCP X on my Mac and run stabilization. I did this in 3 similar sections. In each case, FCP X took more time to stabilize the motion for the 300 and the “zoomed” in factor for the parameters was increased slightly on the 300. Not sure if that means there was more overall motion, or if the handle bar motion was more busy.

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1 3 дні тому

      Cool analysis! I have the LITPRO on the 25 350XCF (which does not have hand guards) so if I got LITPRO for the 300 could do some analysis of the loop. Laptime is a variable to look at when riding back to back. The TX300 suspension (full Pro Components) felt pretty good to me last fall and earlier this spring but after spending so much time riding 4-strokes recently I may need to spin a few clickers on the TX300 to get it a little more compliant (or perhaps there is something to the updated frame having more compliance and tire contact patch feel)....maybe a '25 300XC would work better?😎

    • @parkcitymacs
      @parkcitymacs 3 дні тому

      @@mxengineer1 ya the LitPro is the ticket. Maybe an iPhone with a GPS app like Gaia or other you could get stats from the same device on each machine. GoPro used to have a track option. I know every time I’m on my buddies 24’ fx300 I try to blitz him on the trails if I’m in front. Rarely works. I definitely feel faster with the 300 the more technical it gets. Fact is, when he’s on my 350 he pretty much blitzes me 100 percent of the time. I get back on my 350 and I feel slower on it, but it’s not the case.

      Based on my CUO experience so far I don't think there is any change in flame out character using the CUO. I have not ridden difficult tight trails yet on my '25 350XCF. I will make a video comparing the "250F" map with the stock Green map on some tight trails and see if there is any difference in flame out.

      I had the 16 350XCF, 19/20 FX350, and 21 350XCF. My 21 350XCF with the myKTM connectivity unit and full Akrapovic exhaust had a very broad powerband (best of the previous generation 350 engines I had ridden). The 24/25 350 engine with the latest EFI map (better than the 23 350SXF/XCF map) and my '25 350XCF is the best 350 engine to date with very good low to mid power and strong mid to top power. This new engine very fun to ride and with the engine braking dialed back and easy enough to dial up throttle response for more low to mid power using the CUO I think you will find this latest engine a nice improvement over your 2018 engine.

      I don't think the CUO has much if any effect on flame outs based on my experience so far. I've not stalled the bike on the woods loops so far but have also not ridden an super tight technical trails yet. I will make a video soon of slow technical riding with the dialed back "250F" map and the stock Green map. Flywheel weight should help on your 24 FX350.

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1 4 дні тому

      I've ridden a few 23/24 350's (SXF and FC) models back to back with my 24.5 KTM 450 Factory Edition (new chassis) and '25 350XCF and perceptive riders will notice better lean angle traction and little more comfort (mostly from the rear) on bump impact and hard pack choppy conditions on the updated 2025 chassis. For me the chassis changes are noticeable and make a difference and are worth the extra money. Less picky riders may not notice any difference between the 24/25 models. There are some decent rebates and deals out there on 24 model Austrian bikes so perhaps take the savings and have the suspension dialed to your liking and buy the 2025 engine mounts and be close to the 25 model?

      @@mxengineer1 I am a very picky rider, and I am on bike number 50ish now. Not that I have had a lot of bikes, just been riding for 30 years. That is a great suggestion regarding the engine mounts. The rebates on 2024's have caught my eye. My son's 2023 handles infinitely better than my 2019. If I do not pull the trigger on a '24 with rebates, I will pick up a '25 in fall of '25. After thinking about it, sounds like the improvement of the '24 will be huge over my 2019.
